Expedition World Oceans at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn

19/09/2025

Expedition Weltmeere at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, from 2 October 2025 to 6 April 2026. I am delighted to be represented in this exhibition with 10 works from my Wakame series.

My works will be juxtaposed with those of British artist Anna Atkins (1799–1871), who also dealt extensively with the subject of algae. Anna and her father met the pioneer of photography William Henry Fox Talbot in February 1839 and were friends with the physicist Sir John Herschel, who invented the cyanotype photographic process in 1839. Anna Atkins learned the photographic process of cyanotype and used it to create the book British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions in 1843, which is considered the first photo book ever.

For me personally, it is a very nice thought that my contemporary works, 180 years later, but created using a photographic process that is itself already 170 years old, correspond with this.

The exhibition was curated by Dr Katharina Chrubasik and Dr Agnieszka Lulinska.
